In a rapidly developing urban area in East Africa, the existing concrete drainage system had suffered from cracking, leakage, and blockages after long-term use, leading to severe flooding during the rainy season. To address these issues, the local municipality launched a drainage system upgrade project.

After evaluating multiple solutions, HDPE double wall corrugated pipes were selected as the main pipeline material for stormwater drainage in urban roads and industrial areas.

HDPE double wall corrugated pipes offer a smooth inner wall for improved flow capacity, a corrugated outer structure for high ring stiffness, and excellent corrosion resistance, making them particularly suitable for complex soil conditions and heavy rainfall environments in the region. In addition, their lightweight design and easy connection significantly improved installation efficiency and shortened the construction period.

A total of approximately 12 kilometers of pipeline were installed in this project. Compared with traditional concrete pipes, installation efficiency increased by over 30%. After completion, the drainage capacity was significantly improved, urban flooding was effectively reduced, and long-term maintenance costs were notably lowered.

This case demonstrates that HDPE double wall corrugated pipes provide strong adaptability and cost-effectiveness in municipal drainage systems in Africa, and are gradually becoming an important alternative to traditional concrete pipes.
